Our comment on
„A truly great year, measuring up to the pre-phylloxera 1865 and 1870. Big, highly concentrated wines, extremely tannic, long-lasting.“ This according to Michael Broadbent. I helped arrange a tasting of 50 or so wines from this great vintage once and have had the good fortune to enjoy ‘45s fairly often and am more and more convinced that the top couple ‘45s are greater than any other vintage maybe even including the top ‘61s. The yield was minimal due to frost in May, and the concentation of pure fruit is so enormous that it can cope with the very hard tannins of 1945. The shining star is of course the legendary Mouton - the greatest wine I ever had the pleasure to drink. Latour and Haut Brion are also fantastic.
