The Barbecue season has opened!

On nutrient-rich shale soils, under mild climatic conditions and with loving care, a great range of grape varieties mature in the Portuguese Alentejo, from which primarily excellent red wines are produced. Two of these tintos, namely those of the Herdade do Arrepiado Velho estate, have especially impressed us: one fruity and easy to drink, the other one more powerful and of mature complexity – both perfect for a freshly grilled and juicy steak.

Herdade do Arrepiado Velho Tinto

Perfect for a barbeque through its youthful fruit and power. Very good to drink now but will surely age well for another couple of years.

Tasting: Concentrated purple color, intense floral nose with notes of black fruits. Mouth feel is full bodied, rich in flavor, with smooth tannins and good persistence.

Food pairing: Enjoy with well flavored dishes of either red or more elaborately prepared white meats. A wine that can accompany both traditional or modern cuisine.

Herdade do Arrepiado Velho "Collection" Tinto

A wine full of power and concentration but not lacking freshness and complexity. Very good to drink now but will surely age very well for many years.

Tasting: Concentrated ruby-violet color. Generous nose with very intense aroma of crushed blackberries, balsamic and some tabaco. Full bodied, very aromatic. The mouth-feel is full with very ripe firm tannins. Good acidity and a sustained finish.

Food pairing:  Enjoy with roasted, slightly caramelized red meat or game with black fruit jelly. Match also with a powerful Portuguese cheese from “Azeitão” or a traditional “Roquefort”.
