I had the opportunity to drink a number of wines with vintages ending with a 5.
I will give my personal, very short notes on some of the wines.
1815
Marsala Superiore Riserva Nelson – lovely sweetness. Still very much alive.
1925
Ygay Marques de Murrieta Reserva Especial – Quite oxidised with high acidity
Marques de Riscal Reserva – Fresh. Very good.
1935
Rioja Palacio Reserva Especial – very young. Very good.
1945
Ch Senejac – Still very fresh. Good.
Ch Haut Peyraguey – Goodish, burnt caramel.
Ch Rieussec – Dark colour, very good.
Moet & Chandon ½ bottle – healthy colour- not too dark, bit toffe on the nose. Very good.
Thörnischer Ritsch Riesling Auslese, Josef Adams – ageing, fresh acidity.
Vouvray Moelleaux, Bourillon-Dorleans – wonderful!
Barolo Cannubi Riserva Speciale, Borgogno – light colour. Very good.
Ch Latour – lovely, great fruit and balance. Long. Great!!
Ch Leoville Las Cases – Very, very good. Stylish, good fruit and structure. Wow!
Ch Ducru Beaucaillou – touch volatile acidity, stylish. Good.
Ch Gruaud Larose – good fruit. Very good.
Muscat de Samos – eucalyptus, sweet fruit. Very good.

Ch La Conseillante – Good but ageing.
Clos du Commanderie, van-der-Meulen, very good
Ch Margaux Magnum – elegant, fine, stylish. Very good!
Ch Palmer – goodish fruit, bitter finish. Not very good.
Ch La Mission Haut Brion, van-der-Meulen – Good, ageing a bit.
Ch Cheval Blanc – deep colour, sweet wonderful fruit. Great!!
Clos de Tart, van-der-Meulen – Deep colour, very good fruit, power, bit dry finish. Very good.

1965
Ch La Tour Haut Brion – some fruit left. Drinkable.
Vega Sicilia Unico – good, stylish, lightweight.
Musigny, Cave des Batistines – sweet, a bit tarty, not bad.
Marques Riscal Reserva – very good for the vintage.
1975
Ch Figeac – touch cork. Goodish fruit.
Ch Lynch Bages – good nose and fruit. Touch dry finish.
Ch Montrose – tannic but not as bad as expected.
Dom Perignon – a very good still-wine.
Ch La Mission Haut Brion – good, some maturity.
Mayacamas Cabernet Sauvignon – Good. Sweet fruit.
Ch Pétrus – Great. Wonderful!
Heitz Marthas Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon – very good fruit. Wow! Fantastic!
Ch La Tour Haut Brion – very good!! Better than Mission this time.
Biondi Santi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva – tannic, dry fruit, bitter finish. Not good.
Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Rosé – touch medicinal, a bit disappointing.
Moulin Touchais – Fresh. Very good.
Ch Pétrus – F-ing Magic!!!
1985
Ch Lynch Bages – Very good nose. Very good. Classic.
Ch Pichon Lalande – Lovely, soft wine.
Hirtzberger Grüner Veltliner Honivogl Spätlese – Honeyed, very good.
Hirtzberger Riesling Hochrain Spätlese – Fresh acidity. Very good.
Dom Perignon – good. Quite mature.
Monfortino, Giacomo Conterno – Deep colour, good sweet fruit. Very good.
Barolo Falletto di Serralunga Riserva Red label – lightein r colour, stylish. Very very good.
Soldera Brunello di Montalcino – good fruit, some charm. Good.
Gevery Chambertin Clos St. Jacques, Armand Rousseau – very good nose, lovely fruit!! Elegant.
La Mouline, Guigal – lovely!!
Hermitage, Chave – very good. Still tannic.
Taittinger Collection – Quite powerful. Very good.
Ch Palmer – soft fruit, good balance. Very good.

Ch Montrose – Good fruit, lacking some charm.
Ch Angelus. Goodish. Tannic.
Ch Tertre Roteboeuf – Good fruit.
Ch Lafite – Good nose and fruit. Goodish for Lafite.
Ch Mouton – Good fruit, tannic. Good.
Ch Latour – Good fruit and concentration. Very good.
Hirtzberger Grüner Veltliner Honivogl – touch botrytis, very good.
Knoll Riesling Schütt - touch botrytis, good.
2005

Ch Eglise Clinet – very good.

Ch Malescot St Exupery – goodish.
Meursault, Coche-Dury – Good, touch bitter finish.
Chevalier-Montrachet, Leflaive – very good, power.

Ch Cos d’Estournel – good fruit, soft tannins.
Angelus – good Structure. Good.
